Los Angeles /Metropolitan area has seven professional sports teams. Two NBA Teams The LA Lakers and the LA Clippers. Two MLB teams, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the LA Dodgers. Two NHL Hockey teams the LA KINGS and Anaheim Ducks. And The RAMS are headed back to Los Angeles.
NBA
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful teams in NBA history, and have won 16 NBA Championships. The Lakers are the second most valuable franchise in the NBA according to FORBES Magazine. Last five of the 16 Championships 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2010. The team name came from when they started in Minneapolis as the Minneapolis Lakers, they moved to LA in 1960. 21 Hall of Fame players have played for this team. Kobe Bryant will be the 22.
The Los Angeles Clippers franchise was founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, moved to San Diego in 1978. In 1984 the Clippers moved to LA. The Clippers have never won a NBA Championship but have recently won two Division titles 2013 and 2014.
NHL
The Los Angeles KINGS was founded in 1966. Winners of Two Stanley Cup Championships. The first in 2012 and again in 2014. What put the KINGS on the map was On August 9, 1988 they acquired The National Hockey League's best player, Wayne Gretzky. This Trade SHOCKED the World of Hockey. Canadians were pissed. This move generated so much excitement for Hockey in Southern California the popularity of the Kings is credited with the arrival of another team in the area. The Anaheim Ducks, even San Jose, CA and Phoenix, AZ got Hockey Teams.
Just Announced last month LAS VEGAS will get a team in 2017.
In 1993 founded by The Walt Disney Company the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim was created after the Movie The Mighty Ducks. Disney sold the franchise in 2005 and is now called the Anaheim Ducks. The have Won the Stanley Cup one time in 2007.
MLB
The Los Angeles Dodgers started in Brooklyn, New York as the Brooklyn Dodgers, they moved to Los Angeles in 1958. Winners of Six World Series Titles. 1955, 59, 63, 65, 81 and most recent 1988.
LA Lakers Earvin "Magic" Johson NBA Hall of Fame basketball player is a Partner in Ownership of the Dodgers.
Los Angeles Angels aka the LA Angels was founded in 1961. They Won the World Series one time, in 2002.
NFL
2016 Welcome Back to Los Angeles. The RAMS started in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams. After winning the 1945 NFL Championship Game, they moved that year to Los Angeles making way for the Cleveland Browns. After the 1994 NFL Season, the Rams moved to St. Louis, Missouri and won Superbowl 34 five year later.
At the end of the 2015 Football season, the Rams, the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers all filled to relocate to Los Angeles. On January 12 2015 the NFL voted 30-2 to allow the RAMS to move back to LA. They had to pay a $550 Million dollar relocation fee.
The Oakland Raiders are now looking at moving to Las Vegas, NV.
